As a new believer in Christ at age sixteen, I recall one night going outside my home in Peoria, Illinois, and crying out to God to show Himself to me to confirm that what I believed about Him was true. “Just appear to me!” I begged of God.
Most of us long for a better marriage, and that longing is to be applauded. However, how might some go about improving the relationship?
When I went off to military school in eighth grade, where I stayed for the next five years, there was another cadet who entered eighth grade with me.
A husband has a need to be respected by his wife. That is what Paul teaches in Ephesians 5:33. As well, a wife has a need to be honored (respected) by her husband.
Would you rather receive honors, be honored, or be honorable? Emerson Eggerichs on the deepest desire God placed in every man's heart and what it means to be an honorable man.
The psalmist wrote in Psalm 33:6, “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their lights.”
When a husband and wife find themselves on yet another out-of-control Crazy Cycle—where feeling unloved, she reacts without respect; and feeling disrespected, he reacts without love—how do they decide who is going to be the first to stop reacting unlovingly or disrespectfully?
Real wives say they hate it. Real husbands say it breeds resentment. Here's what couples actually think about "happy wife, happy life" — and what it's doing to marriages.
My faith journey commenced with the person of Jesus Christ. I first had to answer this question: Is the report about who Jesus claimed to be, true?
The idea of unconditional respect for the husband has always been the Love and Respect message’s unique feature, based on Ephesians 5:33. Many books stress Paul’s instruction for husbands to love their wives (“each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself . . .”), but few spend equal space if any at all, to the rest of the verse (“. . . and the wife must respect her husband”).
Many wives share disappointment that their husbands rarely talk to them at a deeper level. “Emerson, when we were dating, we used to talk long into the night getting to really know each other. What happened to him?”
Have you ever thought about what Jesus, whom Christians believe to be God incarnate, believed about the beginning? Yes, I understand the temptation to call this a silly question.
In the beginning, after God had created Adam and placed him in the garden to cultivate it, He said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him” (Genesis 2:18).
